Michael and Michelle Miola are the owners of Silver Spurs Equine. When not in the saddle, Michael is the Chairman of Northstar Financial Services Group, a holding company for several asset management and asset servicing companies.

Born and raised in New York, horses have always been a part of Michelle and Michael's lives. In 1982, they purchased their first horse, a thoroughbred hunter jumper named Napoleon and have been hooked on riding ever since. In 1992 they purchased a horse ranch in Kiowa, Colorado and became captivated by reining.

In 2002, Michael, Michelle, and their children left New York and permanently relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona. Unable to find a stable that provided the quality of training, equine care and riding facilities that they had become accustomed to on their Colorado ranch, they decided to build a facility that not only met their expectations but honored their love for horses.

Michael and Michelle built Silver Spurs with the sole intention of creating an elite line of American Quarter Horses specializing in the sport of Reining. Silver Spurs is a private facility. All of the horses on the ranch are owned by Silver Spurs Equine, no boarders or outside horses (with the exception of mares for on-farm breeding) are permitted on the ranch.
In December 2005, Silver Spurs Equine became a reality for these two passionate reiners. To achieve their goal, Michael and Michelle embarked on a mission to acquire the finest:
• Breeding sires in the reining industry
• Brood mares with excellent pedigree and/or excellent earning/producing records
• State-of-the-art breeding facility to conduct their breeding program.
• Livestock procurement and sales director with a keen eye for good horse flesh.

Our Livestock Procurement and Sales Director is the one and only Brett Stone. While Brett really needs no introduction, he is a multiple Reining Champion and the winner of the most coveted title in the sport of Reining - 1992 NRHA Reining Open Futurity Champion which he won on our NRHA Hall of Fame and Million Dollar Sire, Boomernic. Brett's proudest achievement though was when he conducted the Reining Demonstration Clinic at the 1996 Reining Futurity.

Brett was intricately involved with the designing and planning of Silver Spurs Equine from its inception and has been a constant force in making Silver Spurs Equine the premier breeding facility for the sport of Reining in the World.
A successful breeding program requires two main ingredients, great sires and great mares. In our opinion, there are certain blood lines that are responsible for creating the majority of today's champion reining horses. On the top side, stallions sired by Reminic, Topsail Whiz, Nu Chex To Cash, Gray Starlight, and Gunner (Colonels Smoking Gun). On the bottom side, mares sired by Custom Crome and Shining Spark. Finally, any great earning/producing stallion or mare out of Katie Gun and Amarilla Chex.
When we first began our stallion acquisition program we started with the best of the Reminic line by purchasing NRHA Hall of fame and NRHA Million Dollar Sire - Boomernic. This was followed by our acquisition of the best of the Topsail Whiz line - the NRHA's first 3rd Generation Million Dollar Sire - Conquistador Whiz. To complete our collection of the best of the Reminic line we purchased Nic It In The Bud, a reining favorite and NRCHA Million Dollar Sire.

These three stallions represent what we consider to be the established greats. Consistently producing great performers. In fact, since most of Reminic's champions in the reining arena have come from Boomernic, we believe that Boomernic has created his own blood line. With these three stallions in our stable forming the foundation of our breeding program Silver Spurs Equine began its never ending search for those younger stallions that we believe represent the future of the reining industry. To date, we have acquired (in order of acquisition):
• Spooks Gotta Gun - sired by Gray Starlight and out of Katie Gun
• Boom Shernic - sired by Boomernic and out of She And Chic Dunit
• Smoking Whiz (Hamster) - sired by Topsail Whiz and out of Glendas A Smokingun
• Big Chex To Cash - sired by Nu Chex To Cash and out of Snip O Gun
• Tinker With Guns - sired by Gunner and out of Tinker Nic (who is by, guess who - Reminic)
• Docs Soula - sired by Docs Hickory Nut by Doc's Hickory
• Einsteins Revolution - sired by Great Resolve

WHO WILL BE NEXT? This time we are really going on the cutting edge! In June 2013 with the help of Andrea Fappani we found a 4-year old stallion, SG Frozen Enterprize ("Iceman"), winner of the 2012 Italian Open Futurity (levels 4 through 1). Iceman was Imported into the United States to compete in the 2013 NRHA Derby. Once we saw him and researched his pedigree we found that this horse was bred from great foundation stock three and four generations back (Hollywood Jac 86 and Topsail Cody on the top side, and Be Aech Enterprise and Doc Bar on the bottom side) and that Iceman is a complete out cross to practically every brood mare in the United States! Now, in addition to offering the best of the established blood lines, we are offering new blood lines to the reining industry!
Iceman is a magnificent Red Dun standing 16 hands with the disposition of a gelding. We purchased Iceman the week of the 2013 NRHA Derby and Andrea Fappani rode him for Silver Spurs Equine. With only a little over three weeks to prepare, Andrea and Iceman finished in 5th place in the Level 4 Open Finals. We expect Iceman to have an illustrious competitive carrier and make an excellent addition to our stallion roster.
We want our loyal breeding family to know that we never rest on our laurels.
As reining continues to evolve Silver Spurs Equine will evolve with it,
providing you with the largest and best selection of stallions in the reining industry.
Mare Power, there is an old saying, "great foals come from great sires." Silver Spurs Equine, as the largest private owner of reining horse sires in the world, certainly agrees with that saying. However, in order to bring out the best qualities of a great sire, and more importantly, improve upon the qualities of that sire it takes a great mare. Silver Spurs Equine currently has 45 excellent brood mares; way too many to list here so please visit our MARE Tab for a complete listing. Here is a sample of a few of our best:

Custom Mahogany – a 1999 mare sired by Custom Crome and out of Gay Doc Nell (by Gay Doc). Custom Mahogany was the 2002 NRHA Open Reserve Champion. She had a very successful show career with LTE earnings in excess of $200,000. She currently has produced earners of over $120,000.
